Stop fucking petitioning me to vote for you, most of you never came to one of our gigs so get the fuck out of my inbox pronto. I will however start a collection so you can get the operation to remove your bottom ribs. Meteors me hole.

Oh I don’t often agree with Anto Kane but he pretty much hit the nail on the head.

  1. I did vote for fiach, dave morrisey and sharon reid but im fed up at this stage with at least 10 messages a day on myspace and facebook reminding me to vote!If i think you are that good i would make it my business to vote for you and would’nt need to be pettitioned!

    • Yep, I pretty agree. The fact that nominations are open to fresh votes each day means the spam will continue.

Does anyone know the story with the nominations process? aparently bands can enter themselves into the competition but my friends’ band are there and they swear they didn’t enter. Could it be connected to the breakingtunes.ie profiles? Anyone know?

  2. It seems bands enter themselves and then are shortlisted but as for your friend’s band i havent a clue if they didnt enter themselves. It seems to be the norm now in any competition a band enters that the more friends you have the more likely you are to win. Take the music away and its just a popularity contest. Sucks really. I think bands should enter themselves and have a panel of industry judges to pick the winners.

  3. As Nay said, I don’t have two clues as to how my band got on that list. It doesn’t matter if anyone votes for us anyway, because there are at least (AT LEAST) 50 bands on that list more popular/with more friends than us and there are many other better ways I can think of to spend evenings than guilt-pestering everyone I know into pushing us for an award which will ultimately go to the most marketable act.

I’m sure I’m not the only person to whom it matters so much more if someone goes to our myspace and tells us honestly what they think of the music instead or goes to our club night in Twisted Pepper instead or listens to my podcast instead.

I’m sure lots of people would love to be counted alongside JJ72, The Revs, The Thrills, Future Kings Of Spain, Humanzi and Director as the most promising band out of Ireland at a certain time. But anybody who wouldn’t and is still sending out ‘vote for us’ messages really needs to ask themselves why they’re doing it.
