The Devil Is In The Details

Anyone taken any good photos at gigs lately? I certainly haven’t…last Friday’s jaunt to the Ballroom of Romance gig was nixed when my Nikon battery charger gave up the ghost. Thankfully I managed to fix it last night…what do fuses do apart from make things work, anyway? Lauren Guillery promised she got good video footage from the show so, expect that soon.

It meant I had to just get drunk and dance to Not Squares on Saturday too. Great band, great night.

I’ve been pottering around on Road Records‘ YouTube channel looking for vids from The Ambience Affair‘s instore show last Saturday. No sign yet but just in case you somehow overlooked how in tune with Irish music the guys are, check out all their vids.

Second Square To None + SoundCloud = deadly, deadly, deadly live sets each week. Catch up on soft Ilex or this week’s offering, Cignol.

LeGalaxie are on fire at the moment, I heard their Spirit Store gig last week was so high-spirited it almost sparked a riot. They return on form to Crawdaddy tomorrow night with So Cow and the brilliant Betamax Format. €10? Star-bargain!

I’ll Eat Your Face doing what they do best: killing it. Have you got the new, free album yet?

Oh, C!ties haz a photo now. AU Magazine will be glad, I wrote them up as a Breaking Band in August and we could never run the piece cos the band had no photos. Soooo young:

News from ThumpedOut On A Limb, the Limerick-based label home to Crayonsmith, Hooray for Humans and Rest have announced three February shows in Cork, Galway and Limerick. There was also mention on Twitter yesterday that Guilty Optics appear on a new label sampler which will be given out at upcoming shows. New kids C!ties will also be joining as a support act for the Limerick show.

Speaking of which: Koalacord. New band comprising milliner Niamh Buckley,  Donal O’Brien and Guilty Optics’ Al Finnerty.

Showcasing the best of music in their book, !Kaboogie! have added a new section to their website with links to free downloads…this week, it’s Teishi.

Cute review of Patrick Kelleher‘s album on Drop-D. Time is irrelevant, only music matters.

Choice Prize nominees Dark Room Notes gave an interview on 2XM’s Wired For Sound.

On the subject of the little award ceremony that should, the line-up of the Vicar Street event on 3 March has been finalised. Eight out of ten acts shortlisted will play to the audience as the judges whittle down the decision of Irish album of 2009. Music on the night will come from And So I Watch You From Afar, Codes, Adrian Crowley, Dark Room Notes, The Duckworth Lewis Method, Julie Feeney, Valerie Francis and The Swell Season.

You can see a pattern here right? As soon as I mention one band, I remember another. And So I Watch You From Afar have confirmed the details of the launch of The Letters EP (RTE clip of ASIWYFA’s performing S Is For Salamander here). Set to kill, the nordies hit Twisted Pepper on 26 March with support from BATS and Jogging. That’s right, ASIWYFA and BATS share a stage! I have waited a long time to see/hear/swoon/dream/sway/scream this ohappyday-way.

Oh but first, organised by SweetOblivion, the Haiti Bake Sale & Gig in Twisted Pepper, next Thursday 4 February…BATS, Hunter-Gatherer and Groom. ‘Mazin’ bands! DJs – Nialler9 and Popical Island! Cakes! Delicious sonic calories and guilt-free fun (om-nommies on sale include gluten-free, sugar-free and vegan recipes)!

Oh yeah, did you hear Junior85‘s remix of Left For Dead by Hunter-Gatherer yet? It’s harpy!

Now then, that’ll do ya xx
