A music blog from Ireland.
Returning to RTE for a second series, Under Ether is back on television this Wednesday night. Presented by Elton Mullally and Michelle Doherty who worked together on Channel 6′s Nightshift, the show features an eclectic mix of Irish and international music videos.
A few changes have taken place since its initial airing as a six-part series last year: it’s been extended to ten episodes and the name has been altered slightly. It runs for an hour from 23.20 and features official music videos and studio performances, short chats and information on upcoming gigs around the country. Episode #1 features new music from Yeasayer, The Bees, Grinderman and Talking Heads while special guests for an interview and live performance are the Australian three-piece PVT whose spellbinding new album Church With No Magic has wowed fans, especially those who were in attendance for their recent show at the Workman’s Club.
Though the full schedule is yet to be announced, I’m dying for the chance to see the new shows (and one of my favourite Irish bands) as I have it on good authority that the guests lined up for Under Ether in the coming weeks are the best yet, spanning the most exciting styles new music has to offer from elated, energetic, ethereal and experimental, they’ve worked really hard to expand on the success of the first series to bring a genuinely relevant new programme to mainstream television, something we’ve been in dire need of. Don’t say there’s no alternative….
As a reminder, here’s O Emperor performing Don’t Mind Me from Series #1 ::
Under Ether airs on RTE 2 at 11.20pm, Wednesday 6 October.
