A music blog from Ireland.
If fools rush in, they should grasp angels by the hand and drag them off to dance. Listening to this yesterday, I was already floored by the fourth song. People of world, readers of blog, brace yourselves for The First Book of Lessons, debut album of Yeh Deadlies. We knew it would be good – sure, that’s in the name. Here are the first details of the album and premiere of the opening track, The Present Perfect.

Primary peeps of Popical Island, Padraig O’Reilly, Annie Tierney, Jonny Fun and Dave Green have been working solidly over the past few years, releasing two EPs and a 7″ single (all on Bandcamp) in the run-up to the release of the album. Now that’s ready: The First Book Of Lessons is released 8 April on Popical Island. True to the prolific, precocious persona of their band, the album boasts fourteen tracks, a melodic myriad of guitars, keys, harmonies and happy stuff, overlaid with trignometric precision and doodly individuality to the extent that each song deserves a different coloured box on the timetable of its 40 minutes running-length.
The First Book Of Lessons will be launched in Shebeen Chic on 1 April (s’no joke) with support from Sea Pinks and The Dinah Brand, which just about caps off the glee I’m feeling. Feck yeah, deadly!
