Excellent array of bands on the bill for this year’s Castlepalooza festival in Tullamore, Co. Offally, taking place from 29-31 July 2011.

Get this for starters :: Adebisi Shank, Daithi O’Dronai, Elaine Mai, Enemies, Go Panda Go, Jape, Jogging, Kid Karate, Le Galaxie, Lost Chord, Moths, Planet Parade, Sacred Animals, Sleep Thieves, Squarehead, The Casanova Wave,The Danger Is, The Jimmy Cake, Toby Kaar, TransAuto Radio, Visionair and We Are Losers. Forgive me for not linking them individually: Google is your friend. Far from the complete line-up of Irish artists on the bill, these acts alone present an excellent selection of the vibrance and diversity of great new Irish music.
Then there’s the international contingent in Hudson Mohwake, Onra, Naughty By Nature and Dogs, along with others. Check out the full line-up over on the website.
If Castlepalooza is a novel concept to you, know that it takes place on the site of Charleville Castle, a wonderfully intimate venue that has held its own in the small festival stakes since 2006. Capacity is about 2000 and one of the biggest draws of this festival compared to others is the fact that everything is close to hand – the main stage is in the castle courtyard while the campsites are immediately behind it. There’s usually a marquee for a second stage, acoustic gigs and dance workshops inside the castle itself along with various spontaneous little events, firebreathers, the party bus, bellydancers and much more.
Tickets are priced €89 for the whole weekend or €74 for two days and both include camping but for the next 59 hours (Weds-Fri) they are offering tickets for just €59 ::
