A music blog from Ireland.
Azure sky beyond blonde beech-wood blind slats at my window, the gleam of white as bright sunshine hits to split off into reflected rays of summer light and the gentle sway of trees in the distance – there’s a lot to be said for a fresh week that gets off to a good start. It doesn’t get much better than new music from Jape on a Monday morning and free to download at that.

Hands Of Fire / Lying on a Deathbed
You gotta hand it to Richie Egan, he’s some guy for a busy guy. Along with VisionAir and The Redneck Manifesto, he’s been hard at work on his new material with Jape and these two fantastic songs are taken from the new album Oceans Of Frequency which is due for release in September. Following on from the 2008 Choice Prize-winning Ritual, hey’re quite the thrilling indication of what to expect from the fourth album of Richie and his band of musically-gifted cohorts. The vibrant Hands Of Fire is another dancefloor-delighter with sublime synths and full-swing chorus while Lying On A Deathbed is like music on the flipside, balancing euphoria with more tentative, thoughtful tones, using subtle instrumentation to bolster an almost-confidential vocal delivery. I really like this set and it’s nestled in my music folder, ready to see me through the next few months.
You can download the tracks by heading over to the Jape website and slinging down your digital particulars in return for two chinks of sonic silver.
