A music blog from Ireland.
This, I feel, is really very special. A set of songs from Galway’s Brigid Power-Ryce, recorded last week in an underground car park. The acoustics are great and give her voice astounding clarity with that lovely guitar sound.
It was brought to my attention by Declan Q Kelly, who sent the link over in an email yesterday.
I thought you might like to hear these – a couple of underground car park recordings of Brigid Power-Ryce (the first three songs on that page) we did last week. I’ve been visiting this (abandoned) car park since last August, recording people and taking photos and videos and stuff. I think (hopefully) I’ll amalgamate everything at some point for some sort of audiovisual sort of a thing. But for now there’s the odd couple of things online like Brigid’s pieces and this short video clip I made for a college application (hence the slightly wanky description…) with my friends Alice and Aaron (Yawning Chasm). Brigid is hoping to release a full length album this year I think; she released a small EP on Rusted Rail last year.
Brigid did indeed release an EP on Rusted Rail in 2010, the five-track You Are Here. She plays the London Feis on 18 June. Christy Moore, Imelda May, Ham Sandwich, O Emperor and many more are also on the bill for the Irish festival in Finsbury Park.
Thanks Nay! That video mentioned in the email is here:
