BellX1 have never been one of my favourite bands but I’m always happy to admit when songs take me by surprise, as this band have done with Anna Lena and Velcro from their new album Bloodless Coup. And in fairness now, it’s pretty big deal to be the first band to ever stream a concert live on the world’s biggest social networking site. BellX1 did exactly that last Friday night, performing on the rooftop of Facebook’s Dublin offices for all the world to see.

As you can see, the casting director did a pretty good job picking Jesse Eisenberg to play the role of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. Computer programmer and entrepreneur Zuckerberg (centre, pictured to the right of Bellx1 frontman Paul Noonan) flew into Dublin to watch the band perform in the flesh and is said to have stayed for the weekend, partying away in the Twisted Pepper amongst other spots. With an apparent $9.5 billion fortune as a result of his technologically-savvy ideas, he probably didn’t smuggle in a hipflask of whiskey in his sock like most other 27 year-olds.

A full-length video of BellX1′s rooftop performance has been uploaded to vimeo in case you missed the live stream. If you fancy checking out the new songs from Bloodless Coup in realtime yourself, they play the Sea Sessions, Bundoran on 25 June, the Marquee, Cork on 1 July, Galway Arts Festival on 16 July and Marlay Park on 16 August.
