[fap_default_playlist id="3017"]Tonight The Chakras play the Workman’s Club for their first gig in Dublin for over a year. They’ve a new single Drifting due for release on 15 July with their debut album Build Me A Swan to follow in September.

It’s funny about The Chakras as I’d been a bit underwhelmed to hear they were ‘back’. Things are starting to move for them now as they return to gigging and prepare to release on Planet Function Records but they’ve been going for a long time. My last sighting of them was of singer Rocky Whittaker in an astrakhan-collared coat after something of a dodgy gig in The Village a long time ago, but back when I started out blogging and was really concentrating on Irish music, I used to buy a shedload of albums and EPs in Road Records every month (I miss doing that). One of the first ones I picked up in those big buys was The Chakras’ Build Me A Swan EP and so, it’s been kinda weird to see the same song and title used five years later. It’s a really telling signifier of their dedication and belief in their music as a band though isn’t it? I have to commend that and so, look forward to hearing the album when it’s ready. Word’s got out that the new music is really very good…to me it sounds like all the laid-back rock vibes of 90s indie. @carrowapodemus was at their gig in the Roisin Dubh on Monday night and loved it – read his review here.
