A music blog from Ireland.
Wrap your ears around some sweet tunes ahead of Thursday’s Future Bright gig at Crawdaddy. There are some real goodies in this mix including the first airing of Last Days of 1984‘s brand-new song WOODS. It sounds fantastic with guitar and floating harmonies – hard to believe it’s only the second track they’ve put and yet they’ve already supported Dan Deacon and landed a place on the Berlin Festival bill and the MAP Mixtape.
Also included are two free downloads of Bayleaf and Cinnte (remix of Nouvean‘s original) by the show’s headliner Toby Kaar which have been unavailable for the last few months due to maxing out on his own account. Second chance to claim ‘em as your own!
I also thought it would be nice to put some of the lesser-known but equally-deadly songs by the other featured artists so we have some additions of material by Low Sea, Bantum and VerseChorusVerse along with two tracks by the DJs LeGalaxie and Logikparty – in hindsight I should have asked them to do their own DJ-style mixes but nevermind! I think the whole bunch sound absolutely great together.
When you think back to summer 2010, hardly any of these artists were known: it would still be some time before Toby Kaar’s big beats broke out of Cork while VerseChorusVerse’s Tony Wright was busy touring the world with his other band ASIWYFA. Low Sea weren’t gigging very much, Logikparty had only been going a few months, Bantum was working away quietly and Last Days of 1984 didn’t even exist. Le Galaxie had been around a while and had just begun work on their debut album. All of these musicians, spread at four diamond points across this island, have made 2011 their own and their contribution has added to the continuing high integrity of the Irish music scene we know and love so well. I can hand-on-heart stand by this line-up knowing it’s the freshest and best array of acts that emphasise what Harmless Noise is all about.
This is the last promo for the show that I’m gonna do here. I tweaked the colours on the poster just to brighten it up and give a new slant to the fantastic design made by Jon Averill for POD – I hope he doesn’t mind! It’s been so much fun just organising this and the mental thing is that the gig hasn’t even happened yet. Hope to see you there tomorrow night: doors are 7.30 (stage times below), admission is €5 and pints of Heineken are €3. Huge thanks to everyone who helped spread word – wow, it’s gonna be so much fun!
