A music blog from Ireland.
Amazing the difference that Bandcamp has made in sharing new music, certainly in Ireland. When Drop-D first got a bee in their bonnet about creating the ultimate Cork music compilation, it was split into several different download links and boasted around 100 tracks. The intention was pure but the outcome was bulky and cumbersome to say the least. Now for the 2012 instalment that is Cork Rock City Vol.2, a simple Bandcamp stream has been implemented to bring you 39 tracks from Drop-D’s favourite local artists in one easy package.

Former Monarchs, Hope Is Noise, I’ll Eat Your Face, [R]evolution of a Sun, Slugbait, Ten Past Seven are just some of the bands who’ve contributed their tracks for free download. As you’d expect of the heaviest popular music site, most of these tracks are balls-to-the-walls rock, and knowing Cork’s pedigree, I wouldn’t expect any less. However a different style that I’m really liking comes with a new discovery for me, Elll, whose song Fuzzy Melody is a stand-out starting point that seems to be exactly what Drop-D hope to achieve in releasing these tunes.
Not only are the songs being given away for free, there will also be a launch party this Friday 4 November in the Crane Lane Theatre with Former Monarchs and Slugbait (who were only ‘mazin’ in Whelans a few weeks ago). It’s pay-as-you like and with such a solid community behind it, I can only guess at what a great night it will be for everyone at the D and all the heads of Cork’s thriving local scene.

Cork Rock City Vol.2 is available to download free from Bandcamp now.
