A music blog from Ireland.
A great video for Simon Bird‘s song Stillborn In Autumn and a very interesting bit of news indeed: he’s asking for your help to raise €800 to release his latest EP V on very limited edition 12″ vinyl.
These idyllic scenes above are the ultimate in ‘found footage’; they were filmed on holidays in the late Sixties by Simon’s grandparents and as he explains in the description, if it wasn’t for his father transferring them to VHS some years later, the film would have been completely ruined. The colours are so rich and intense, and those last shots with the giraffes are really something special that you’d never see happening today.
Simon Bird, a 21 year-old electronic producer from Somerset, moved to Dublin five years ago. He’s spent the last year releasing his music as free digital downloads and the latest of these is V. In his own words:
“I am extremely happy with all of the music that I have produced to date and now, with the success so far of ‘V’, I can see for the first time a shimmer of hope that I could make a future for myself in this business. That’s where you come in.”
It has indeed been a positive year, seeing his profile raise from free downloads on Bandcamp to growing media awareness and gig offers from enthusastic promoters. With the help of a FundIt page, Simon Bird now hopes to release V on vinyl if he can raise €800 through pledges from fans and supporters. €8 gets a contributor credit on the record sleeve, €15 a credit and a free copy of the record when it arrives, and a pledge of €75 will be rewarded with a hand-painted cover for the record produced by Simon himself.
