You’ve heard She Moved Through The Fair but you’ve never heard it like this. Galway’s Brigid Power-Ryce sings the traditional favourite in an underground carpark.
Regular readers may remember I posted this song in a set of music by Brigid Power-Ryce a few months back but the video itself is new. I love the darkness, and the light twitch of snare. Recording in the underground carpark is the brainchild of Declan Q. Kelly who has been experimenting with the man-made acoustic chamber afforded by the solid layer of concrete and the video above stands as an example of how interesting an effect it has upon vocals, adding a powerful echo to Brigid’s impressive voice (I think it might be mezzo-soprano by classical standards).
According to Declan, we can expect to hear more from the carpark sessions very soon with songs from Burrows, The Elephant Vanishes, Gavin Prior and the mysterious yet prolific Toymonger. In the meantime you can hear Declan Q’s new album Yzz on Bandcamp now, available to buy on a name-your-price basis.
