Great fun feel-good video for Free Jazz from Brooklyn’s Sport of Kings, featuring bad cocktails made by a multi-instrumentalist Weimaraner dog with a penchant for cat sweaters.

It’s a fab song, I’ve really warmed to it over the last few hours, laden with lovely harmonies, brass and handclaps. While listening I couldn’t help draw a comparison between Sport of Kings and the Popical Island lynchpins Groom.
You might wonder why I’ve featured a Brooklyn band on Harmless Noise? Well, Sport of Kings’ frontman Richard Kelly is Irish and it just so happens that he had a band who did well here in Dublin by the name of Capratone, whose members went on to other things including Pantone247 and…Groom! Richard Kelly headed west to New York in 2006 where he set up the super-cool Scientific Laboratories rehearsal studios.

I love it when things come together like this. Sport of Kings are hitting Dublin on 24 November at the Grand Social to play alongside Land Lovers for Social Rising. Land Lovers stepped in to replace labelmates Yeh Deadlies who were originally booked to headline. Electric Penguins are also on the bill – it’s a steal at €5.

If you like this song Free Jazz, get ready for more when Sport of Kings release their new EP Logic House, on 5 December with a full-length record due to follow in January 2012.
