Only one Irish show has been planned for the live airing of songs from Laura Sheeran’s new album What The World Knows and that is taking place this Saturday 19 May in Whelans. In the space of twelve months since her debut Lust Of Pig And The Fresh Blood was released in 2011, Laura followed up by releasing a split 7″ single with Katie Kim in summer, a new EP Murderous Love in October, a new band Nanu Nanu and then topped it with the release of What The World Knows. It’s a great listen, as attested by writers elsewhere, such as those at State and the Journal of Music.
I’ve been a fan of Laura’s since hearing the Music For The Deep Woods EP a few years ago but it wasn’t until the full-band launch of Lust Of Pig at the Grand Social that I realised just how much she has to offer and how deep her musical ambitions run. Lust Of Pig was bleak in its emotion and borne aloft on intricate and varied instrumental accompaniment but What The World Knows hears Laura step forward into the embrace of cello, electronics and her own striking vocals.

Margie Lewis will open the show, and a special guest has been hinted at…though not mentioned on the official event page, I wonder…could it be this man? If so, that’s really something. There’s no other way to find out than to get along to the gig on Saturday and find out.
