David Turpin has been working on the follow-up to his album Haunted! for some time now and has released the first few songs from his cache of new material. Seductive downer The Hotel will be released as a single, while Deer Fable is a brooding, eerie and wonderful collaboration amongst good friends Cathy Davey and Hunter-Gatherer.
Next week David will bring these songs to life for the Absolut Fringe Festival with a very special show at the the Project Arts Centre. Deer Fable is a thematic preview of the music put together for We Belong Dead, a “combined concert, installation and occult ritual” which will attempt “an experimental song cycle imagining the end of man and the return of the animal kingdom”. It’s a once-off performance with the considerable musical strengths and powers of acolytes Cathy Davey, Hunter-Gatherer and Ivan St John, who join the master of ceremonies David Turpin on stage in his bid to raise a fleeting glimpse of a new world where nature rules again.
