Here, have a kick up the arse and sing along as it starts to sting! Titled according to the EP that is due for release this Friday 21 September, this track is the first glimpse of new material from Dublin’s legendary punks since the release of their self-titled, incredible Moutpiece album in 2008. It’s easy to hear why they chose this as the lead track: as far as catchiness goes, you’d need a mitt to field that chorus.

Four tracks in all (Black Banana, Positive Frame Of Mind, Back In Time and The Unlucky One), it’s only 11 minutes and the whole EP’s blowing my mind, it’s just about the best I’ve heard of punk this year and sort of makes me feel like there must have been a huge gap up til now. I just keep biting my lip as the guitars power up with an appreciable crinkling frown for those thunderous basslines. It’s so good.

I always liked what Gaz did with his own bands Retarded Cop and Hot Colossus the last while but really, I think his heart belongs in this band because the way Moutpiece gel together is a work of art. Punk rock art deserving of a ceiling somewhere, though they’d only blow it to fecking bits in fairness. Like the Thomas House this Friday, where they’re putting on a free party that’s sure to attract the cream of scuzz appreciation society.

Pre-order the Black Banana EP now on Bandcamp for €8 and get an instant, free digital copy while they rustle up your vinyl for the post. Though if you want, you could pay more, they wouldn’t say no!
